About this Speaker

Winkfield Twyman, Jr., a former law professor, supports universal humanity & a higher consciousness about commonalities in the human condition. We are at our best when we reject slogan words and dogma. He has worked in legal education, public policy and legal practice for almost 35 years. As a writer, he has published essays and articles on historical figures of resilience in black American culture and consciousness. He is dedicated to speaking out against groupthink as a way of understanding race in the United States.Twyman has brought together cousins from different races on the Hold My Drink & Counterweight podcast. The author of On the Road to Oak Lawn: Truth, Reconciliation and the Twymans (December 1, 2018), Twyman has been at the vanguard of merging genetic genealogy with a united sense of family and country across the color line. A member of Counterweight and past contributor of opinion pieces, Twyman is a graduate of the University of Virginia and Harvard Law School. His forthcoming book with co-author Jennifer Richmond -- Letters in Black and White: A New Correspondence on Race in America -- will be released in the Spring from Pitchstone Publishing.
