Joe Nalven views culture and social context from multiple perspectives. As an attorney, he has been a litigator, mediator and arbitrator as well as having taught lawyering skills. As an anthropologist, he has conducted research in Latin America on community development and in the United States on undocumented immigration and the U.S.-Mexico transborder environment. As an adjunct professor, he has taught courses in ethnographic research, peace and justice, urban anthropology, logic, ethics and human nature. Nalven has conducted research for the U.S. Department of Labor, the County of San Diego and The Rosenberg Foundation in addition to holding a Rockefeller Postdoctoral Fellowship in Environmental Affairs. His recent book addresses the national conversation on race, I and the Other: A Wicked Inquiry.
